Hello, everyone! Long time no hear.
Well, the winter is over, spring is here. Though as I'm writing these words, it's still minus 15 or something outside: Who cares now, we do know that spring is somewhere around. So, here are the tunes and records that helped us get through this winter, and will make the coming spring warmer and happier. Peace and thanks to all our friends, partners and teachers worldwide!
Ilya Rasskazov Bye-bye winter chart (in no particular order)
1.. Fertile Ground "Yellow Daisies" (Nicola Conte's Ptah El Daoud rework) (Counterpoint)
Fertile Ground and beautiful Navasha Daya's voice reworked by Nicola Conte! Swinging!!!
2.. Mod X "The Quest" (Paul Murphy remix) (Ice & Spice Records)
More dancefloor madness from Paul Murphy - this time remixing French ill broken-soul-dub by Mod X!
3.. Zero Crossing "Rhythm Of Life" EP (Perfect.Toy)
Delicious EP from German's Perfect.Toy Records. A-side offers two lyrical and very deep brilliants - "Rhythm Of Life" and "Da Bizzla". B-side sounds more electro-funky. Great stuff.
4.. Benny Sings "Little Donna" (Sonar Kollektiv)
Once again Sonar Kollektiv crew prove themselves to be the most open-minded label of nowdays. Nu-jazz, Detroit tech-house, broken beats, idm - these guys don't mind the genres. This time they have done it with pop. Benny sings - be careful, you may love it!
5.. Ennio Styles feat. Elvis Aljus "Elvis On Timbales" (Local People)
One of the highlights from the Local People label compilation which shows most diverse and interesting sounds from the other side of the Earth. On this track we have dj Ennio Styles and Elvis Aljus not only on timbales but on percussions too! Wicked dancefloor-filler.
6.. Mark de Clive-Lowe feat. Bembe Segue "State Of The Mental" (Antipodean)
Mark's music is just ahead of time. Space fusion that just grows and grows and grows on you.
7.. Alex Attias feat. Del & Ruti Halvani "Future Jazz" (Visions / Compost)
One of the best tracks from one of the best albums of last year. Still in heavy rotation. Music for life!
8.. Hird "Moving On" (DNM)
The winter is over, and this album was this winter's main soundtrack. We're moving on!
9.. Yukihiro Fukutomi feat. Rich Medina "Equality" (File Records)
One of the favourite Japanese producers comes back with his new album. Lot's of great collaborations. "Equality" was made together with Rich Medina. Future jazz at it's finest.
10.. I:Cube "Vacuum Jackers" (Maurice Fulton remix) (Versatile)
This one was trainspotted during Mad Mats' set in St.Petersburg last October. We managed to get a couple of copies and now going crazy about this track. So deep!
11.. Freedom Satellite feat. Kudra Owens "Running Fast" (Vienna Scientists)
Favorite composition from the "Vienna Scoentists - Five Years Of Solid Grooves" compilation. Looking forward to hearing Freedom Satellite's album.
12.. Truby Trio "New Music" (Gucciman's New Music remix) (Compost)
One of many dancefloor beauties that can be found on "Retreated" - a remix project for 2003 bestseller "Elevator Music".
13.. Analogik "So many Musicians" (Auditory Design)
Very enjoyable EP from Danish Auditory Design who introduce their new artist - Analogik. Most eclectic and interesting sounds that combine so many influences - idm meets d'n'b, jazz meets dub. Very interesting approach to lounge-music, I should say. Love the Rumpistol remix for "So many Musicians"!
14.. A Bossa Eletrica "Skindo LeLe" (S.U.M.O. rebounce) (Raw Fusion)
The original is a great dancefloor track, but Swedish Underfed Music Operators go even further!
15.. Paul Murphy & Marc Woolford Project "Jazz Room" (Spiritual South remix)
This one isn't new, but it is here to give proper respects to Sirs Paul Murphy & Mark Woolford and the wonderful Spiritual South remixers! In the record bag forever!
16.. Porks Watch "Million Toes" (Sylvester Over's marion cobra remix) (Q-Tape Records)
Wonderful 12" from French Q-Tape Records. Deepest tech-jazz, 21st century sounds!
17.. Mark Rae "Reach Out To Me" 12" (Grand Central Records)
Mark Rae throws in a rocking downtempo gem featuring soulful & funky vocals by Veba. Plus we get a nice remixes by Funky Lowlives and Riton who turns the track into some minimal-techno madness. But the main highlight is probably City Hi-Fi's remix for "Without You Now" - future dancehall at it's finest.
18.. Robag Wruhme "KTB" (Sonar Kollektiv)
Beautiful combination of downtempo-beats, sexy soulful vocal, crazy beat-boxing and minimal tech-house on one 12" - the strangest records of last weeks! Like it a lot!
19.. Roots Manuva "Colossal Insight" (Big Dada)
He doesn't give a damn about uk rap. He is just making uk tracks. Favourite track from the new album by Mr.Smith - his best album so far. Awfully deep - nothing to add.
20.. Yotoko "Bullet-time" (Emoticon)
Dominic "Domu" Stanton and his studio partner Dave Farlam deliver this beautiful futuristic track. Dark and cinematic broken-techno. Recommended!
