    Greetings,

I only took a week off, but somehow it. feels like three! My thanks
once again to Tomas Palermo for filling in. You can check his
playlist out below, but there are no new audio archives .

We're gearing up for the SFJazz Festival Fall Seaon that begins
during the third week of October. Some of the artists I'm looking
forward to include: George Cables w/Gary Bartz, Dave Douglas, Mose
Allison / Patricia Barber, Yusef Lateef, Ornette Coleman and from
Africa, Konono No. 1. For details and show times, go to
www.sfjazz.org, then tune in to FreeFall for a chance to win tickets
    for each of these acts.

Of course the music has piled up and currently at the top of the
heap, are two albums that are deeply rooted in the blues. The first
channels the voice of Sister Gertrude Morgan, an evangelist and folk
artist (i.e. painting) from New Orleans, through the music of King
Britt. The result is not unlike some of the other hybrids that have
come before from artists like Moby or Little Axe. The difference
here, is that Sister G's voice is on every track, giving the music a
larger vocabulary. The other comes from Sweden, courtesy of Ernesto -
a voice you've heard on many, many records over the past several
years. No samples here, but instead a respect for traditional blues
structures set in an electronic context. About halfway through the
album the blues idiom pretty much disappears, in favor of icy-cold
pop tunes that are just itchin' to be remixed. Very catchy. There's
also the latest from Yonderboi, Susumu Yokota, Rich Medina,
Blockhead, Eric Alexander, Marty Erlich and the new John
Coltrane/Thelonious Monk Carnegie Hall set to check out. Sprinkle
with singles and it's on! I hope you'll join me.....

    Ciao for now,
    David
