There is a lot of really good new music out there right now.
And a surprising amount of it is from folks whose names we are pretty familiar with...
And one of the trends that I am observing is that when the older artists takes radical
chances, the end result is very good.
(ex: Will Hart/Delfonics, Herbie Hancock, Bettye LaVette, etc)
But when they try to meld together what they are best known for with whatever they think is
"trendy" (the "half azzed" approach), it less satisfying.
(ex: George Clinton, EWF, etc)
so I guess it really is possible to...
"teach an old dog new tricks"
I'm also going to guess that when the older artist takes that radical chance, that they will
find a new audience?
And finding new audiences is the key in my opinion to extending the music we love into the
future...
stay tuned...
