I love that chart...

Once again the problem is that most folks (me included) are only making posts about themselves as opposed to having actual conversations.
If there were more conversations then the volume of postings would increase and the trend would be reversed.

I think that this list would be a very enjoyable and powerful thing because of the sheer amount of musical knowlege here.

In my opinion, we should figure out a way to make that happen collectively

It's time for the chart again, what appears to be an exponential decline in posts:

In the month of July 2001 there were over 900 posts, and in December 2005 there were 43, a decrease of 95% - and that's in a traditionally busy month when everyone puts up their 'best of the year' compilations.

I don't know what the solution is. It's a viscious circle because if there is no discussion, the list won't come up in any searches on the net, and no-one new people will join the list. Also, the playlists, as good as they are, will be a turnoff if they make up 99% of the traffic on the mailing list. In December 2005 there were no discussion posts at all.

Here's my playlist for the mo:

  Madvillain- Madvillainy
Bit late on this one but it's a top LP!

Alex Smoke- Never want to see you again
Good stuff, has anyone heard the whole album?

  Earl Sixteen- Black on Black
  Top reggae tune

Eek a Mouse- Wild like a Tiger
Would appreciate any other Eek a Mouse tips!

That's four anyway. Also, I've got a track I need IDing, wonder if anyone can help? It's a vocal version of 'Red Clay' by Freddie Hubbard, but the singing is done entirely as a chorus and it may be an all-female one. Production sounds kind of late 70s or early 80s, the most similar sounding version I've heard is by Mark Murphy, however it isn't him and it's not Phil Bailey- there's no male solo singing at all. Has all the trumpet parts of other versions, and a good deal of the track is given over to piano too. Any ideas?

  Cheers

  Carl

In looking at the responses to my "Last 5" question I noted the diversity in the musical selections. Given my knowlege of the people here on this mailing list that is no surprise to me. I remember back to previous times when someone has complained about the lack of conversation on this mailing list, one of the reasons stated was that...

"people are too busy promoting themselves to engage in conversation here..."

So I decided to take a visit over to the Acid Jazz Server website which our man Erik B maintains over at the following url:
  http://www.cmd.uu.se/AcidJazz/Radio/

It seems to me that we should be able to figure out a way to do something with it together, that would benifit everyone here.
10 years ago when I first joined this mailing list, there was lots of conversation. One of the reasons for that was because this was one of the few places that existed where those types of discussions could occur.

Today the internet is vastly different than it was 10 years ago. There are almost too many places to talk about music.
As a result musical discussion has become splintered and somewhat irrelevant, as now most musical discussion is really just thinly disguised "advertising" for a product.

Any other thoughts, ideas or potential action items?
