Hola,
Well, it took longer than it should, but you asked for it and I
answered: the FreeFall Podcasts are up and running with the last
three shows and my recent guest stint on Friday Night Sessions. It's
easy to subscribe: paste this URL
http://www.freefallradio.com/podcasts/FreeFall.xml into your favorite
RSS news reader, or go to the iTunes Music Store and link directly
from there. Now you'll be able to enjoy the program wherever and
whenever you want!
Musically, tonight the big story is Zero. That's Zero as in zero dB
and Zero 7, both of whom have new albums on the horizon and both of
which we'll be sampling this evening. Zero 7's The Garden is a bit on
the fluffy side and they've gone for more of an upbeat pop flavor
this time 'round. I'm not sure how happy I am with this new
direction, especially since Sia is the only guest member left from
the previous roster of vocalists. I suppose with fine new offerings
from Mozez and Tina Dico, it's not that big of a deal... On the other
hand, Bongos, Beats & Basslines is a fucking monster of a disc and
it's definitely one of my favorite albums of the year so far. It's
been several years since zero dB have released a full-length disc and
I'm sure you'll agree it's been worth the wait.
Other music I'm listening to in preparation for the big show includes
the Gnarls Barkley album St. Elsewhere, which is shaping up to be a
monster. The first single, "Crazy," topped the UK charts this week as
a download! A first for the format and deservedly so. There's also
some wack polka and East Euro bizniz from Slavic Soul Party, the
latest album from Groove Collective, strange noises from Super
Numeri, EPs and re-rubs from Roots Manuva, Alif Tree, Subtle, Dub
Club and Dabrye, dark electronics from subtractiveLAD, and jazziness
from Christian Scott, Charnett Moffett and the first album from
Robert Glasper (2004's Mood), that you probably haven't heard yet.
Speaking of Mr. Glasper, he'll be appearing this Sunday at the Palace
Of Fine Arts' Florence Gould Theater (at 2pm) and we'll have a pair
of tickets for one lucky listener. Could that be you? I hope you'll
tune in.
Ciao for now,
David
