Tuesday nights have the best vibe going as the Sapphire Supper Club presents Phat N Jazzy... it's a low down jazzhead experience in a historic downtown jazz club. DJ BMF leads the proceedings, but expect sets also from DJ Slack, Pimp Daddy Nash, and Q-Burn's Abstract Message plus some live musicians. Big names DJ here quite often, too, so you may be lucky enough to visit on the night of a special guest.
Wednesdays see DJ BMF doing the jazz-house thing at a spiffy new club called Rennaissance. He plays past midnight, and then the late hours are taken over by mix-CD champion Kimball Collins, who hits the more progressive side of house.
Monday and Friday nights Q-Burn's Abstract Message spins a chill affair at Barbarella, or more specifically, in their hidden backroom. The front area is your usual progessive & alternative thing, but in the back Q-Burn (that's me) delivers his message of 'ambient soul, electro-jazz, and beat noir'.
Also, the best place to shop for the 'jazz for dancing' sounds would be Bad Mood Records. I'm not saying this because it is my store, but because it really is the only store with a large selection of 'acid jazz' and like musics. Stop in and say 'howdy'... I'm there all the friggin' time. And if you're looking for classic old jazz records, Orlando is a goldmine of thrift stores and second hand shops, but I can elaborate more on those details one on one.
And all these places I've listed above are in downtown Orlando, within a five block radius. That should make it easy for you! And, often these clubs (such as the Sapphire or the ultra-cool Go Lounge) will have great live shows, such as recent appearances by TJ Kirk, Last Poets, Martin Medeski & Wood, and frequent shows by locals What It Is (from Gainesville) and jazz legend Sam Rivers.
