this *is* a really nice track...

er> goldie vs. rabbit in the moon "inner city life"
er> (well.. i'm not much of a goldie fan myself.. so.. whatever)

goldie's alright, but i wish it weren't housed out--but what to expect from
a house producer (i.e. rabbit in the moon)

er> dj krush "duality"
er> (the early and good krush stuff)

i had the impression that this was on "meiso"...

er> orbital "the box"

housy, but interesting (i'm not anti-house, but being from l.a. where the dj
stores are 90% house, you tend to get reactionary...)

er> ltj bukem "horizons" (great mix, name sounds familiar but don't think
er> he's in my library anywhere else, nice build up to a decent beat)

bukem is one of the names in jungle/drum & bass now. check the latest urb
to
get some background on him.

er> dj shadow "in flux" (excellent track, shadow always lives up to
er> expectations with his varied twelve minute mixes and dope sampling)
er> jeru the damaja "ya playin yaself"
er> (more rap than anything, good vibe and all tho..)

rap as it should be! something you can listen to when you're not partying
or
rollin' that holds up on all fronts!

er> watts project "doin' every day the hard way"
er> (well.. personally not enough beat going on, too much talk.. you
er> know?)

i have to agree that i wasn't particularly happy w/this track, but for
slightly different reasons. i wasn't happy w/the music bed, it seemed that
the music & the vox were in competition... as far as all the talk, the
watts
prophets are one of the archetypes for modern rap. imo, the trinity of rap
precursors are gil scott-heron, the last poets, and the watts prophets. so,
the *point* of the piece is the talking, but the music and production were
lacking imo...

er> lemon d "los angeles"
er> (sample of ole tom brokaw.. "this is los angeles, gang capital of
er> america".. kind of reminds me of snoop doggy dog gone jungle.. at
er> least with some of the sounds.. decent track..)

actually, if you don't have "amerikka's most wanted" by ice cube, you should
pick it up. i think it's a great album (w/the usual misses right between
spots of brilliance) and it's produced by cube's crew--the lench mob--and
the bomb squad (public enemy's crew). "los angeles" is definitely
influenced
by this album--even if unconsciously...

er> folk implosion "natural one (u.n.k.l.e. remix)"
er> (sweet remix, pleasant sounding vocals..)

er> money mark "never stop"
er> (chilled funky tune, with a smooth underlying bassline.. great ending
er> track)

i keep hearing this guy's dope, but everything i ever hear annoys me!
someone please turn me on to his phat shit!!!
