Not that hard to mix, timing's easy because the snares always seem
to be regular... :-) As for the keys and stuff, obviously it is going to
sound horrid if you mix 2 melodies at the same time, but there's _always_
plenty of places in the tunes where there's just a b-line or just drums, and
it doesn't sound too bad then.
The reason it doesn't get much playing in clubs is because its not
really 'dance' music as such, people go clubbing to dance, maybe in a chill
out room it works, but jazzy d&b isn't for the dancefloor and wouldn't make
much sense there anyway. (Can you imagine listening to it on a 20kw sound
system?...)
Still, there's artists making jazz-led 'dancefloor d&b', like Roni
Size/Reprazent (see their Full Cycle nights in the UK at Lakota in Bristol),
the only difference is the beats are harder. Also, check out stuff on Full
Cycle records, Ignition records, even some of the more melodic Metalheadz
stuff...
