jazzy jungle scene

ma> As for the previously mentioned reason smooth jazzy jungle doesn't
ma> seem to get much playing time here in Philly (not as big of a scene i'm
ma> afraid, as New York or Cali... everyone's event updates over there
ma> make me jealous!), kids into jungle seem to want the tracks aimed at
ma> the dancefloor... a little less complicated, repeating, sharp pounding
ma> beats.

don't be jealous of us here in cali. almost all the djs i've ever heard
spin
jazzy jungle here are friends of mine. the big junglists really aren't
w/it.
they seem to think of jazzy jungle as being faster "chill-hop". most of the
people that dig the jazzy stuff (crowds, primarily) aren't really
"junglists",
they're people that are more into jazzy beat music.

as far as danceability, there's a lot more jazzy "2-step" coming out now.
the beats are more upfront and chunky, whereas the "roller" stuff tends to
be
too chill--why, i don't know, cuz it doesn't have to be!!

ma> I guess in my perfect world there would be a club down the
ma> street where it was full of music lovers who's only goal was to listen
ma> to as much different kind of music that they could before the night
ma> ended... dancefloor, whatever...

in my world, people would dance to the above music...

ma> but 9 times out of 10 people don't
ma> seem all that focused on listening music when they go out...(there are
ma> exceptions to the rule though) Anyway, jazzy jungle is really not that
ma> hard to mix because there are plenty of things you can do get around
ma> the melody if it clashes.

people don't really pay much attention to the music unless the really *hate*
it, or really *dig* it.

as far as mixing jazzy jungle (or anything really), i think that most djs
are
too lazy--get more musical!! e.g., if the breakdown's longer than you like,

put some beats in there, don't just go to another tune! i know that takes
some skill, but so does playing a "traditional" instrument--i think that djs

deserve more respect, but we're gonna have to *earn* it.

p.s. i'd like to hear more dubby or reggae style jungle coming out... mr.
england, are you working on any d&b?
