Dude, it's all relative. And don't be pretending to be an expert on the
Philly scene; you've never even been there, T... So I take Kev's assessment
as the truth. Good that most of your friends spin jazzy jungle, at least
they exist. In some places, they don't. Remember, not everyone on the list
lives in a big city (I'm speaking in general, not Philly, I've been there
and it's a good sized metropolitan area), or even a city for that matter. A
lot of places lack weekly clubs, the closest thing they get to drum & bass
is the occasional rave 50 miles away. I also even got into an email
correspondence with a college student from here who goes to college in NY
and dreads it there musically because she can't hear any KCRW-type stuff on
the radio there (I since referred her to KCRW's Real Audio feed).
Also, I think this discussion has validated that the jazzy sort of jungle
that we know and love is pretty much ignored in clubs *everywhere*, or at
least in the U.S., (or at least ouside of London) as many people have
mentioned. It's not a West Coast Thing, or a Cali thing or even an L.A.
thing...
