Now that we've completed our two-part 2001 retrospective, it's back
to business as usual and not a moment too soon....a small pile of new
releases has amassed along with a number of cool older titles, such
    as:

The Groove Corporation Presents: "Remixes From The Elephant House" -
This trio from Birmingham, England perform some outstanding remix
wizardry on classic tracks by Bob Marley, Ennio Morricone, Dillinger,
Bobby Womack and others....top of the pile this week.

Fauna Flash: "Confusion: The Fusion Mixes" - FF's "Fusion" album of
last year gets a working over by the F.O.C. (Friends of Compost)
crew. Guest appearances by Kyoto Jazz Massive, Blue Foundation,
Dzihan & Kamien, Peter Kruder, Pole, etc.....designed for both the
    dance floor and your head.

As One: "Reflections On Reflections" - I just found this mid-90s gem
and guess what? Yep, more remixes.....Kirk Degiorgio gets the once
over from Russ Gabriel, Scanner, Carl Craig and other bastions of
    electronica.....otherworldly and elegant.

Speaking of Carl Craig, another discovery was a compilation of some
of his earliest work as BFC & Psyche. "Elements 1989-1990" may sound
a tad dated by some standards, but is still very enjoyable to listen
to. Actually, compared to some of the other hacks with record
contracts, it sounds fresher than many of their recent recordings....

The Chemical Bros.: "Come With Us" - A little boombastic for my
current state of mind, but this should be a monster, nonetheless. It
probably just need to grow on me.

The self-titled album from San Francisco's Shabaz brings together
Qawwali singing and well-crafted beats for a deep, spiritual groove -
perfect for those downtempo and dub sets. They perform live at the
Elbo Room, Friday the 25th, so stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

Downtempo is the operative word for FCom's "Megasoft Office 2001,"
featuring a number of artists from their roster, such as Llorca,
Alexkid, The Youngsters and of course, head honcho and producer
extraordinare, Laurent Garnier. This is the second in what I hope,
    becomes a regular series.

Beggars Banquet dropped several tasty samplers from forthcoming
albums, including an EP by Tommy Guerrero (experimental, low-fi
beats), remixes of Neil Halstead's (Mojave 3) new solo disc by Pedro,
Fort Lauderdale and the Broadway Project and selections from "If I
Were Prince" - a tribute to the purple one formerly known as....well,
you know. All three of these rock, so I'm hoping the full-lengths
will be arriving any day now.....

We also have the new Aphrodite EP, tracks from the forthcoming Kaidi
Tatham album, Vikter Duplaix's DJ Kicks compilation and new music
from The Bluefoot Project, a band equally at home with both soul and
drum & bass.....Oh yeah - there are some sweet jazz and Latin records
    too!

That's all for this week - ciao for now!
    David
