that's a great comp. i spin it all the time at gigs and people get off!

my first experience was a little different. i first heard the term "acid
jazz" right about the time that acid house was getting big here (u.s.). an
english dj i knew told me about how in england they were mixing jazz over
house beats. i had been into jazz for several years, and i was starting to
get the hang of beat mixing, so i brought in "maiden voyage" by herbie hancock
and "impressions" by john coltrane and tried my hand at it. i was working at
a store named fred segal as a dj, so i had a place to try out a lot of things.
the first recorded stuff i heard was 2 comps on scotti brothers/acid jazz,
featuring k collective (proto-bnh), d. influence, quiet boys (featuring
galliano,
and camille hinds), stone cold boners (skatemaster tate & friends), and
snowboy.
a lot of it sounded more r&b to me, so i kind of didn't understand until i
read a review of "rebirth of cool" in urb magazine. this was about the time
that urb first came out, and the disc was only availible as an import.
eventually
i got "rebirth", and came across a promo/test pressing of 2tuff's "jazz thing"
 and took off from there.
