A couple of picks this weekend....

Down to the Roach... 'New Trip Hop' A compilation off Step2. Pretty good. all
very minimalist which is nice for mixing. A lot more electronics than jazz,
which is the way I like it served these days. It is a little unfortunate about
the cheesy title, but, what's in a name? Includes DJ Food "Freedom', 8up
'Brotherettes and Sisterettes', Sabres of Paradise '... Depth Charge remix'
(anybody know any similar slow stuff from the sabres) plus more.

Future Sound OL- 'Far out son of lung...' I guess its an EP with four tracks.
I just read in a rather old magazine that this is a promo release for ISDN
which actually came out last year and has just been reissued. Anyway, pretty
excellent for those that like their electronics and jazz on the slow side.
Crazy horns lots of background choral drone. Pretty noisy album compared with
the other stufff that I have picked up lately but a nice change.

Future Funk 'Less Stress' - might have band and title reversed here. 12" with
6 mixes of the same tune. Include the oldskool mix and the skiskool mix which
I think is prettyy goddam funny. I bought it because it was dedicated to
Spoonie Gee and Quincy Jones who are in my list of likes. Nice sound, cool
bassline, lots of backward drum beats and scratching. Another repetitive and
minimal track, great for mixing.

Ballistic Brothers 'Peckings/Come On' I bought this one since everyone herre
seems to rave about these guys. Maybe this one is alittle wierd. 3 tracks:
one is sort of carribean soca sound with a harmonica playing over top,
interesting. One is a jungle beat with a horn track ( I kinda hate that
jungle beat). The other is straight trance. So kind of wierd, it's Ok but I
think people are probably digging some other side of the BB.

and......

No.1 in the 'Super Sound Series' a trip to the second hand tore bagged me a
nice EZ listening Lp. It's called 'Percussive Latino' has four red and black
tear drop shapes (very art deco style). back tells all about how great the
monaural sound is and the range of recording. The inside tells how to do the
Cha Cha Cha which I am now very proficient at... and the tunes are wicked.
Super latino salsa, brazilian beats, mambo the works. Doesn't even tell who
the performers are. Awesome record.
