The Ronnie Foster is a pleasant surprise. Its called Two-headed Freap(CDP
724383208227).Recorded in 1972,this re-issue has got some wonderful
organ-driven versions of soul hits like Let's Stay Together,Wilson Pickett's Dont
Knock My love and Gamble-Huff's Drowing in the sea of love.Nice guitar
from someone called Gene Bertoncini.
I thought I could live without two more Lou Donaldson but these two are
also gems.The Scorpion(CDP 724383187621) is from a wild gig at a Newark
club in 1970 and includes a 13 minute version of Alligator Boogaloo and
the more mellow jazz standards Laura and the Masquerade is over while
Everything I play is funky (CDP 724393124824) lives up to its name and
the title track,Lou's version of the Allen Toussaint new Orleans classic
is worth it alone. What a lineup-trumpeter Blue Mitchell organist Lonnie
Smith and guitarist Melvin Sparks with the crazy funked out drumming of
Idris Muhammad setting it alight.Exciting finds.

On another note, anyone in Australia have any details of groovy
clubs/record shops etc to visit in Melbourne?
