I just have bought a brilliant compilation by Soul Jazz Records called
NUYORICA!. It contains latin-jazz-funk tunes from mid-70s Spanish Harlem
(El Barrio). Classic tracks by artist such as Joe Battaan, Cachao, Eddie
Palmieri,... are compiled in this double cd. It comes with a very
complete booklet that introduce you every musician. Absolutely funky and
danceable!! Also for those interested in this kind of latin music i
recommend you another cd called "Quiero boogaloo" (Manzana records) but
i'm not sure if it's available outside Spain.
Talking about Eddie Palmieri, i saw him recently playing in my town
(Santander, northern Spain). It was a really hot concert. His piano was
supported by a fantastic trumpetist (ex-Jazz Messenger). I also have to
mention the percussionists.
Another record to pay attention (if you like funky soundtracks from the
70s) is "The chase scene. volume III". It features the Starsky & Hutch
theme among others. What about the previous volumes ?
