Sakamoto's disks are all worth listening to. The vibe isn't AJ but the
styles are not incompatible to the ears of AJ listeners. It's mostly
very sophisticated pop. For those who want to knowthe discs I
know(have) are, on Virgin:
1989...Beauty, ancient japenese melodies influence this one
1991...Heartbeat,he reunites with Sylvian on a couple tracks with wife
Ingrid Chavez from here in Minneapolis, others of note on the record are
John Lurie of Lounge Lizard fame and DJ Towa towa , I think from
Dee-lite. Youssou N'Dour makes appearances on this disc, as well as
Beauty.
1994...Sweet Revenge, the most AJ but not pure, my favorite track from
this pop disc is "Movin' on" with voacls and lyrics from J-me. She
also is on some other tracks, though I don't know who she is, maybe
someone can fill me in, she has some interesting turns to her lyrics.
If anyone can add to this list, I'd like to hear more about RS, though
he isn't straight AJ, I think he does make noteworthy contributions to
the music we all know and love.
cheers,
Steve
