While we were on the "origins of rap" thread,
(in which I come down squarely in support of
the Jamaican tie-in), I got to thinking about
Gil Scott Heron's classic recording,
"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised."

For those of you that have never heard it, I
suggest you check it out. His whole catalogue
is groovy, and having seen him live, I can
be sure he knows how to Jam.

"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" may
be the first truly "American" Rap song.
In a way it is a true bridge between what rap
became and what the beat poets of the 50's
were doing when they spoke over jazz.

A must for any true acid-jazz fan, IMHO.

Personnel included: Ron Carter on Bass
Hubert Laws on Flute
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, drums

Check it out!
