Thanks for the info Kevin...I've never heard of The Last Poets.
I'm now committed to seek them out.

Interesting that you should bring up John Hendricks and
Vocalese...I never considered that this had any relation
to rap, but have enjoyed it since my stint in my High
School's Jazz Choir (and attempted it myself...fortunately
for the music world I gave that up).

Just to put my 2 cents in, I think Annie Ross (of Lambert,
Hendricks and Ross) is second only to Ella Fitzgerald as
a fantastic female Jazz vocalist. Her early tracks with
the Gerry Mulligan Quartet are unparalleled.
