It seems people have lost the meaning of the word funk. why dont we call
acid jazz funk? its close enough. at least the organic (live?) stuff is.
the term funk is highly abused. look at west coast gangsta rap. (G-Funk
era? not wit your wack ass) the same thing happens with the term "soul"
there should be a written law that if your band names contains the words
"funk" or "soul," there should be elements easily detectable in the music.

Im not sure why this happens though. perhaps is that the industry has hit
people so hard upside the dome with grunge power wussy pop glam alternative
that they wouldnt know funky music if it flew up their ass. so when they
hear anything with a microbe of groove or rap, they think its funky. then
these people forms bands and think they are funky. i dont know. thats
one of those Zen questions.

any others care to take a stab?
