>pointless to go to gigs of bands that make this kind of music.

are you going to hear the music, or to see people jumping around on stage?
when i go to a jazz concert (straight-ahead), i only watch what the players
do to see what they're playing. w/electronic music i would do the same thing
as watching a dj--what does he do to get that sound i'm hearing right now?
assuming of course that i'm not dancing my ass off!
dy> since all the sounds are pre-programmed, the 'live' element doesn't

this statement is disproved by the following...
dy> Anyone who has
dy> seen The Orb live knows what *can* be done, it just seems to me that a
dy> lot of other electronic groups just don't go that extra step.
this is the crux of the matter. the orb will take the same tunes
w/pre-recorded parts, and process them differently every night, so it's not
the same even if they play the same set! btw, friends of mine saw the mad
professor live and said it was an awesome show. there was a vocalist, and
the professor was at a mixing board, and they STILL rocked the joint!

p.s. i've always wanted to see tangerine dream live (and they're not even
dance music), and they're known for sitting in front of large boxes, pushing
buttons, and occasionally switching patch cords--real exciting!
... ...and that's the t-bird opinion (whether you asked or not!)
