tunes that made me croon

Back from SF, and needless to say my wallet is considerably lighter. Just
wanted to see who's into some of the records I picked up, and make some
suggestions for those who haven't heard some of it.
First up, who has heard the 4hero mix of Krush's Meiso?
WHOOOOEEE! So so smoothed out drum n bass WITH the Roots lyrics over top
(sounds like they were compressed to fit the tempo). For the fast-beat
fanatic, get this at all costs. And speaking of Meiso mixes, I got a copy
of Shadow's mix on tape. I hear that its pretty much impossible to get on
wax at this point (if somebody knows where they are, let me in on the
scoop!). Again, this is a record definitely worth searching high and low
for. Those Shadow drums hit you like a kit set up in your bedroom,
programmed in such a way that they accentuate and compliment the lyrics
instead of just repeating the same pattern. And the bridge! Oh my god!
One of those tracks that make you moan with pleasure.
Finally picked up some of the older yellow stuff, the soundtrack,
mighty bop, etc. Tasty ambient hip-hop selections, but nothing really hot
off the presses. Peep it if you haven't.
Also got some nice breakbeat albums that I hadn't heard before.
Out since 94, I finally got my hands on Bionic Booger Breaks (Dirtstyle
records/aka Q-bert and crew). Some really wacked out scratching
possibilites (e.g. all the battle sounds from Streetfighter). Also got
the new Rectangle (on yellowish vinyl). Pretty useful, but unfortunatley
laden with a lot of attitude (soundbites like "I'ma kick your fucking
ass" and "Fuck you!" are all over the place). Not really the kind of vibe
I want to promote. There are enough knuckleheads in this world as it is...
One more suggestion (as I'm pressed for time here), a 12" on New
Breed called Son of Hustletron. Similar to some of the moogish electro
riddims of Hustletron, but deeper. Really nice, especially for those on
the Pork tip.
More records, stories, adventures, and SF sum up to come . . .

Bubblicious

PS> A few people were interested in getting a tape. I decided I'm going
to put something a little more professional together, with all the same
ingredients. Poetics, tons of cutting, astral woodwinds, rhymes, dubstyle
filters, and more. Shooting for a month from now. Be on tha lookout. Over
& out.
