You are 100% correct.

You are 100% correct. And the MF is only like 22 or 23 and has only been
playing for around 4-5 years!!!

Anybody have opinions on great bass players past and present?

I also play bass, so here are some of my influences:

Past: BOOTSY (nuff said)
Ron Carter
Larry Graham
James Jamerson (so much soul it's almost illegal) <Motown session plyr>
Ernie Isley (Isely Bros) (not so much a technical player but can
play lines that can pull on your heartstrings)
Verdine White (Earth Wind & Fire)

Present: Jez Colin - Solsonica (The reason why they sound so smooth.)
Andrew Levy - BNH (Groove groove groove!)
Jon Maron - Groove Collective
Lenny "HUB" Hubbard - The Roots (Deeeep!)
Ayman Mobarak - Broun Fellinis (A Bassist and more)
Charlie Hunter (Not only a guitarist, but a bassist too - at once!)
Mark King - Level 42 (Thunderthumbs)
