No it's not that bad!
I'm holding the CD version of The New Groove: The Blue Note Remix
Project Volume 1 (that's right, it's on CD and there will be more)
.......
That reviewer is either obviously not very open-minded or is
extremely biased against some aspect of the project. Sure, it's
not as unified as an original release by one artist, or even a
compilation where a producer selects the tracks. It actually
reminds me of a tribute album where the DJs are remixing the
works that they are paying tribute to. Still, I think the
enlightened members of the Acid Jazz list will find this is
good stuff. I was less than impressed with the "Hummin'" track
that's out as a single. Especially good was the D.J. Smash
remix of Stevie Wonder's "Living For The City". I also liked
"Friends & Strangers", "Down Here On The Ground", and "The
Sophisticated Hippie" remixed by Easy Mo Bee.
Personally, I would've preferred more hip-hop for a harder edge
but this *is* Blue Note. The last track is more straight rap
with a jazzy loop...then it breaks into this jungle N jazz
improv....very cool.
