The store e-mail address is: badmood@earthlink.net
The old address is still good, though. I would prefer to get Eighth
Dimension related messages at the old address, but I'll still get all
messages no matter what address you use. The old address is:

Now on to more interesting issues at hand.
As far as the easy listening thing goes, I find myself a bit hesitant at
the whole 'resurgence' of this thing. Kind of weird for me to be, as I own
tons of the original vinyl copies of this stuff (up to 18 original Martin
Dennys, weee) and bought the Vampyros Lesbos soundtrack like everyone else.
But I can't sit around and listen to this stuff... most of it is pretty
awful, and it is mostly out of irony that people would listen to some of it
at all ("Check it out, we're jamming to the Perspectives in Percussion
series... we're so wacky!"). Yeah, it sometimes is fun, and I've thrown on
my fair share of this junk on at parties to amuse, but a 'resurgence'? Huh?
I mean, I still have a hard time trying to imagine people choosing to
listen to this 'bachelor pad' stuff over the Future Sound of Jazz 2
compilation or the new Fugees or whatever. I own a lot of it, but I got
into buying thrift shop LPs for the cover art and the non-tracable sample
sources. I bought Vampyros Lesbos for a few cool possible samples I picked
out on it, but I would never listen to this as an entertaining musical
work. I'd rather listen to something like the LTJ Bukem Mixmag CD. Someone
explain this fascination to me!
My dad impressed me though as he quickly picked out the Martin Denny sample
in my "Vibe Checkin'" song on MIXED EMOTIONS. Turns out my dad really did
have the bachelor pad thing happening in his college days at UF... he was a
big fan of Martin Denny and even saw Yma Sumac in concert. Gracious.
Right now I'm listening to this Brownswood 2 compilation finally... overall
pretty good. I'm diggin' the Kruder + Dorfmeister cut... I first heard this
when Paul Craven of On The One spun it in New Orleans at a party I DJed at.
What is funny is then (5 months ago), it sounded like this radical jungle
cut to me. But I wasn't really listening to drum n bass then. Now, hearing
it again, and after being exposed to much more jungle, it doesn't sound
like jungle at all! Quite tame, actually, though the K+D touch give it that
sensual edge that is their trademark. Funky and nice. The cut is called "A
Tune For Us", by the way.
The DJ BMF ep came out on New Breed this week... it's got 3 cuts on it and
a swell DJ Smash remix of one of the tracks. Look for it. BMF did a good
job with it and it certainly deviates from what folks tag as 'that New
Breed sound'. Plus I got to play g-funk style keys on a bugged out track
called "Keep Ya Guessin". A guy named Mike Abeyta did some excellent
trumpet work on the EP, too. You'll be hearing a bit more from this guy,
especially on releases coming out of the Eighth Dimension studio... could
he be the first ED studio musician? Yikes!
Medeski Martin + Wood played at Phat N Jazzy last week to a packed club.
Extremely funky and impressive, though I have been just as impressed by
them before. Orlando definitely loves this trio. Someone comented earlier
that Greyboy shows seem to be attracting a dead head following. Well,
Medeski Martin + Wood attracted a noticable number of dead heads as well.
What cha think?
More comments and reviews forthcoming... PEACE!
