I'm a long time subscriber to the list but until now I haven't really felt
compelled to add my two cents. Erykah Badu is the Bomb! The texture of her
voice is exactly like that of the late Billie Holliday. If you close your
eyes you even think that maybe someone pasted Billie's voice over 90's beats.
She runs through riffs with her voice unlike any new artist I have heard in
a long time ( of course she is not new to singing, just new to recording). I
think the title "acid jazz" would get a big boost if lables like the one she
is on, Universal Records, were to declare her as an acid-jazz artist. If
acid-jazz is the jazz of the 90's, hip hop beats groovin' to the creativity
and complexity of jazz, then no one better deserves the title then Erykah
Badu. After hearing her on a radio interview I can see that she is as
spiritually deep as she is talented. I can't help it, I'm in love!! What do
you all think?
