just finished listening to ubiquity's "audio alchemy" (urlp020). it's
definitely in that tripped/dubbed-out-hop category--i.e. hiphop construction
techniques (cut & paste sampling/layering), the beats are evident, but it's
not
all intended to be dance music. it starts out w/some serious audio
spliffage,
and then some more beat heavy stuff shows up, the sequencing of tracks is
good,
almost like a good dj set in this bag. i like the interludes a
lot--actually,
a mixed cd of this could be very interesting... stand out tracks on the
beaty
tip (sorry, i'm doing a dance gig tonite, so the heavier stuff is more
appealing right now) are "last stand" by q-burn (listee representin'!),
"madness (a conversation w/my sanity)" by molasses (aparently, the only
previously availible track), "gritos" by t-cisco, and "creeping up" by
skyjuice & terra diva (does anyone know if this is the same guy that did some
sessions for black uhuru?). on the chill/headnod vibe, i like cut chemist's
track "layered laird", wally & swingsett's "hungry in the abstrakt" and
"omega"
by the sharpshooters...
l.a. peeps, expect to hear this shit at my gigs!
