That's not the point Derek. You didn't scared me with the $15.000. If
you came up with that figure based on a single band CD I do think it's
cheap. That's a low price when compared to some truly bad Portuguese
bands' budget. But, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole
ideia of a compilation project was to promote new bands with a low
budget and buying the rights to include some known bands so the CD can
be sold since you can expect that people go out and buy a record
featuring bands they never heard about.
And there's another thing you should think about. Take my example. I'm a
Radio DJ. I'm not a musicien nor a band manager or promoter. So, pardon
me for being rude, you can't ask me for money to pay for this or any
other project. This should be the bands concern. But, I'm the type of
guy who loves when their friends achieve the victories they're fighting
for and I consider you fellow AJ listees, my friends. So I'm gonna be
very happy when you all get the sucess you deserve. On the other hand,
since last October when I first posted my "add" to the list, I received
some great stuff. I was quit surprised to be in a list where everyone
shared the same love for music even when we disagree on this or that.
And when I listen to Elson's Jibe, Scott's West Coast, I said to myself
"Why are this guys sending me tapes? Why haven't they recorded yet?". So
I posted that my last playlist with a note to those label guys I know
are monitoring the list. I think it's their job to search for this great
unknown bands. That's not my job as a radio DJ. I could just seat home
and wait for the label guys to send me the promotional stuff but I'm not
that type. I own a collection of about 4.000 CD's plus 1.000 vinils
almost all of them bought with my money. Since none of this guys said
anything I assume they want to keep seating on their chairs waiting for
the boss to call the shots! Pitty them!

That said, I'm willing to give my humble contribution. As I early said I
got some good contacts among Portuguese labels, radios, TVs, magazines,
newspapers, etc. I also have some friends in the U.K. who I can talk to
(including SNC and other AJ related publications). I'm sure other list
members have some friends in the business. Together, we can make a great
fuss. And there's a point Elson brought up that I didn't think about.
We're doing an unique thing. Let's take advantage of that! I'm sure a
lot of people would love to talk about our project. Imagine what kind of
publicity that could bring to the bands in the compilation. So the bands
should think about the project as a promotion for them. Of course I'm
willing to buy some copies to give to some of my closest friends but
don't ask me to buy copies to give away to the guys I mensioned early
neither ask them to buy the record.

>Let me know if you can recommend any tracks from what you've collected.

Of course I can recommend some tracks but I think that should be the job
of the project coordinator(es). My opinions are expressed every Friday
when I post my playlist. What I said is what I think about the projects!

Let me finish with a thought: Let's cut the crap and get busy. We've a
lot to do starting the election of the project coordinatores!

Keep in touch,

Paulo Fonseca

PS-I took the liberty of posting this message to the list. I think it
matters us all. I hope you don't mind!?
