Although this is jumping *way* ahead, I thought I'd put this out for people
to mull over a bit...
"as long as you don't do anything intensely critical" could be broadened to
"as long as you don't do anything that would call attention to yourself."
Now, people have already brought up the point of this being a relatively
unique project in that it is a worldwide grassroots effort being made
possible by a community that exists on the Internet, and that that novelty
could be used to our advantage should we want to attempt widespread
distribution, or just to make our collective "demo" stand out from the
rest. But, there is also a flipside to getting that extra media or record
industry attention, which is that the attention would make this project
more vulnerable to attack from the anti-sampling crowd.
I don't want to discourage people (I personally am all for sampling), but I
just wanted to point out that part of what makes this project so exciting
and interesting (and marketable) is also what could put it at risk - IF we
decide to go the public route. I'm really psyched to hear other people's
work even if we just keep it to ourselves, but I also find the prospect of
"putting it out there" to be *very* tantalizing...
Well, I feel like I'm rambling now so I'll just say again that this is just
something to mull over while we put the comp together...nobody's gonna get
sued if we don't have anything to get sued for...so let's keep up the
momentum - I WANNA HEAR SOME MUSIC! :)
