Kris, this is something that I've recently been doing myself, so here
are a few tips that I can offer.

* Get hold of a copy of Cool Edit, the 96 version is normally knocking
around on a magazine coverdisk or three, but this allows you to sample
of a CD source, and then mess about with the length, amplification, add
reverb or sustain and pretty much get it sounding like you want.

* I spent weeks trying to find some software that would either allow me
to convert wav to midi files OR a wav sequencer. Having given up on
the former (having read a article on the usernet that said that it
was impossible) and instead found a wav sequencer called'Making Waves'
which is dead easy to use, cheap to buy and can produce a reasonable
quality of output on a low spec machine.

I don't want to make this sound like a commercial for them, so if
anybody wants a URL for the developers, where there is a useable demo
then drop me a line (use my mcfly@tcp.co.uk address please) and I'll be
happy to help.

Cheers,

First off, thanks to everyone who helped me track down those elusive CDs I was
looking for - respect due!

I am going to finally take the plunge and buy a HOME computer so I don't have
to rely on my workstation. It's going to be an IBM, and my question is-

Can anyone recommend a good music program for the IBM? I mostly want to
sample, loop, etc. from existing sources, maybe add some MIDI keyboard. I'm no
computer whizz, so a nice user-friendly but powerful program is what I'm
after. Suggestions?
