compilation update

Well after reading the posts from last week I hope that people are still
enthused about this compilation, as I am and as, I hope, most of the
participants are. I actually wrote a mail regarding Paulo's post and other
things, but unfortunately my mailserver did not send it at a time where it
would have been more timely, I guess (many days ago).

Many issues were raised in Paulo's mail to the list; I realized one place
where I goofed, which was asking for less rather than more public discussion
of the compilation. That was because I was, admittedly, getting a little tired
of people moaning about the enthusiasm level for the compilation -
counterproductive in my opinion, and furthermore, not a true observation from
my standpoint, as I expressed my mail. However, a recent mail was sent to me
saying the following:

----
Do you think we may be overestimating the disinterest of the rest of the list?
Maybe we should consider returning back to the main list with any discussion
onthe compilation. That way *anyone* with anything to offer can participate.
And,I think, most list members seem to be interested in this project
regardless of whether or not they are contributing a track.
----

This, I guess, is true; though there are a few things that are better kept off
line. Paulo, the existence of a private list was not to keep people out per
se, but was for my benefit; I wanted to be able to communicate with the
musical contributors without having to post to the whole list, in order to
keep the volume of posts down (there _were_ complaints), as well as to enable
things to be a little more organized. As a result, we have already decided
that we (the contributors) are going to vote on track selection (rather than
by website and rather than an individual producer).

Furthermore, things like financing and costs and all things pertaining to that
green stuff are, I believe, issues that are best kept amongst the musical
contributors, - who may have significant out-of-pocket expenses relating to
the compilation. That said, if there is anyone out there who is willing to
help with the financing, I'm sure we'd be willing to listen, especially once
we have a definite idea of who exactly is going to be involved with this
project from a musical perspective. Until we get an idea of whether we want
to market this compilation, the financial issues are not going to be able to
be resolved and are,in my opinion, worthless to speculate about, or at the
very least, publicly.

So, if my post, and my seeming depature from email from a week caused the
list, the contributors, or anyone else undue confusion, I truly apologize.
I'm trying my best to simply get everyone organized; I luckily have the time
to do so. The larger issues are things that I think we'll all need to deal
with if the music is good, but again, it's really the contributors' call as to
what we want to do with our music. And we don't even know _what music_ until
I perform the task of compiling everything and sending it back out to
contributors for voting at the end of March.

This means that it will seem like little is going on until then - but I'll be
updating the list regularly to make sure it seems to everyone else that we're
going full-steam ahead, and nagging all the people who haven't sent stuff
off-line.

And Paulo, I really hope you didn't mean all the stuff that you concluded your
message with. We definitely value your opinions and will appreciate any
suggestions you have.

Tomorrow there will be a post outlining where I think we are at this point and
what we need to do for the next two months. As a prelude, I think the
overwhelming message will be "Patience".
