RE: hip-hop is NOT interesting live...

I think what kicked this off was the De La complaint which i
wholeheartedly agree with. I saw them here in Philly and they sucked to
the point of embarassment. The HO, HEY thing was definitely on the out
of control side. I saw them play in 91(?) with Bim Skala Bim and putting
them back to back like that with a jumping horn section really shows (to
me anyway) that hip hop is lacking in the live department... It's a
curious thing. (damn shame actually) The Roots are definitely the
exception. These boys put on one of the all around best, unpredictable,
lengthy shows i have ever witnessed! It was at the Knitting Factory and
they (sorry i''m about to leave out some people) started off with a
Cold Crush brothers appearance, into some Roots music, they each went
off individually on the solo thing throughout the night, Rahzel ripped
shit, they did the hip-hop 101 thing, Vernon Reid rocked out with a
trombone player, Souls of Mischief came out as well as a bunch of other
guests and then broke into a freestyle session with kids in the crowd.
This went on for what must have been a solid 3 or 4 hours leaving
everyone sweaty and tired from shakin' thier hinies. unfuckinbelievable
show... what was i talking about again?
