Yo,
I love Erykah Badu stuff. I must admit when I first heard her the first
thing that came to my mind was Billy Holliday. Similar vocal techniques.
All I can say what a breath of fresh air in a music scene that frankly,
as vocalists are concerned, has very little individuality in vocal style.
Billy Holliday is a jazz giant. Just as Miles, Monk, the Bird, Mingus,
the Count and Duke. Maybe a Jazz 101 course may help. Ciaosito AJers ....

Yeah, some lady named Holliday...Billie Holliday, I think. Good luck
finding her records. I don't think
*anyone* here has heard of her, though :)
