<< Speaking of Omar, I'm shocked that there's been no discussion about
Laurnea's debut, "Betta Listen". I know it's out in both the uk and in the
states. This is the sleeper aj CD of the year, perhaps not as good as
"baduizm", but a solid nu-soul effort on par with rashaan patterson
and adriana evans. Omar produced three tracks on the album, and even sings
on one song (ironically, it's the weakest of the three) -- other producers
include dj kermit, raphael saddiq (toni tone tony), and speech. She calls
her style "eclectic soul", and that's the best definition for it, she's a
grab bag of jazz, gospel, soul, and funk. I highly recommend this album >>
Laurnea was the opening act for Maxwell, here in Los Angeles (August 7). I
hadn't heard her before, although a good friend from the UK had already
given
me a heads up, to keep an ear out for her. She gave a great, albeit short,
concert - a perfect intro for Maxwell. I was impressed, and will definitely
be picking up her cd, soon.

Just bought this album and it is definitely Phat. I didn't realize that Dj
Kemit was the same guy that's a local dj here in Atlanta. BTW, Kemit has a
HipHop group called Dat Bu. I think they will be the next Fugees. The girl
in the group is dope. They open for De La a few months back.
