Hello,
I would like to get your attention for Sarah Webster Fabio's: Jujus =
alchemy of the blues. Some good blues tunes but! very very fat jazzfunk =
tracks as well. I saw it listed in SNC and it is a gem allright. Sarah =
puts here poems over some serious jazzy music. Like you are listening to =
stuff that has been recorded in the early days. the cd is only some 30 =
minutes long but these three tracks: Sweet Songs and the titelsong, both =
instrumental and vocal version are wicked. Like the saying goes (and =
it's being used way too much): Don''t sleep on it.
Another thing that I heard at a friends house was a single on Mr.Bongo's =
new Japanese minded label (can't recall the name, I'll ask it). They =
mixed d&b with cuban rythms in a very cool way.=20
further some self -promo. Me and a friend who is also a dedicated =
collector and music-lover have made a compilation of our vision of what =
is jazz. There is some hip-hop, d&b, triphop and jazzfunk on it but the =
main thread is jazz. We've used solely vinyl and only stuff that is very =
rare and/or not available on vinyl anymore and not likely to come out on =
cd ever. We don't have a commercial reason for making this stuff but we =
would like to offer people a chance to listen to music they normally =
can't lay their hands on. Anyway we've tried to keep the price as low =
as possible($12.50 incl shipping, no matter where you live) as it is not =
a commercial product but only a promo. The money we earn goes directly =
back in buying new vinyls.=20
If you're interested drop me a note and I'll sent you the tracklist. =
I've been doing this compilation stuff for a while but only for friends. =
Some people on the list already got some of these comps and as I got =
some positive responses from people when I announced my plans for making =
these comps I now offer this to people on the list. As I have only one =
cd-burner I can't take (and don't wan't to) take large orders so it's =
limited to one disc a person.=20
I also got some critics from people who didn't like the idea of =
bootlegging/artist not getting any money for their product but the =
object is of course that if you like what you hear you will go to your =
localshop and check out the artists' album. Look at it this way. That =
music would otherwise stay hidden and only known to a very selected =
group of people (it still does). =20
About Fiona Apple. Here in the Netherlands there has been no or very =
little news about her. No hypes, no videos not even the cd! I got =
through an American friend who told me about her. She must have skipped =
my country, don't know if that's positive or negative..
Technical mumbo-jumbo for copiers:
To ROb E, I don't think config/autoexec have much to do with it. I have =
half a year of experience with copying/burning cd's now. I get a good =
result when I copy The tunes to my harddisk first and then to the cd =
burner. I always read at speed 1, lowest speed, to my harddisk. If I =
don't do this I get clicks in the music. I am looking for anoher type of =
cd-rom that can copy from cd-rom to cd-burner though but they are a bit =
pricey. A lot of cd-roms just can't do the job. You have to have a =
certain type. I work with Easy cd deluxe, latest version to burn and =
Easy cd pro 95 to read to the hard disk. and it works fine I first tried =
Gear 95 but I didn't get good results with that one. Drivers don't make =
a lot of difference, it's the hardware and software here that counts. =
This story only counts for copying from cd to cd, not for other sources. =
and I'm out.
Jeroen
(vdent@tref.nl, my provider is having problems lately so responds can =
take a few days)
