A lot of the new stuff coming out centers around getting out of the 4/4
structure. My boys The Sebutones who are definite fans of Co. Flow, Willie
Biggs and all of his alter-egos, Automator etc.. have been creating some
insane stuff that is barely head nodd-able. The rhythm concepts are moving
towards a jazz aesthetic and the production seems to be a reaction to the
perfectly clean "whoomps, beeps and programmed 'crack!'s" of the bulk of
today's hip hop choonz. Everybody wants a 12 bit sampler and they're all in
the basement mixing down to cassette.

The irony of the situation being that the member of Co.Flow who engineered
the Funcrusher album is a producer/engineer in real life so I figure the
quality was somewhat of a statement.
