I personally have enjoyed the benefits of being the recipient and
provider of live show information. I regularly nag Elson to update his
Los Angeles live calendar. Several people have come to see my band
perform as a result of this list. I have been "turned on" to many a good
local band from this list. The web is a wonderful thing! We are talking
to A&R people because of my band's web site and this list. We recorded a
track for a compilation on Fog City Records because of this list. I met
Elson and the L.A. contigency here.
I have also been online for almost 5 years, starting back in the days
when my band's website was one of a few thousand. It's many HUNDRED
thousands now. I understand and respect netiquette and what a pain in
the ass unwanted spam/ email can be. I think Elson's request is
reasonable and will make mail management much easier for us and
especially the one or two people on this list that find music-related
information offensive. So much for supporting the up and comers, but a
couple of sour grapes won't hurt the batch. I just hope the original
poster doesn't ever decide to self-promote anything on this list or the
flame will be white-hot. 'Nuff said. Off my soapbox.
Peace,
