Originally, Common was scheduled to play,
but I think he bowed out due to a wedding engagement.
Black Eyed Peas rocked the house.
They were slammin'.
They had this female vocalist with them (Kim Hill),
also on Interscope Records,
who had a beautiful smooth voice.
They were really good live.
I definitely recommend anyone who has a chance
to check their performance.
I think they're touring with Cypress Hill,
Wyclef of the Refugees and others this summer
in Jersey somewhere...
Diana King was a babe.
No doubt about that.
She started her set with "Shy Guy."
"I don't want no fly guy, I just want a shy guy..."
She had two backing vocalists
and at one point
even invited an audience member to join them on stage.
The only thing that brought in the cheese factor
were these two luscious African American male bimbos
who twirled around
and heaved their bare chests behind Diana
during certain songs.
I didn't find that particularly attractive.
But otherwise it was an amazing concert.
She ended with the song, "I Say a Little Prayer"
from the My Best Friend's Wedding soundtrack.
I got my CDs autographed by Diana and BEP.
:)
Did anyone go to the Intel Music Festival
over the weekend?
On Friday, I caught Swati at Meow Mix.
She was really good,
a young Indian girl with P.J. Harvery influences
in her songs.
I stayed for Eudora afterwards
but they didn't impress me as much.
On Saturday, I saw a few bands
at Coney Island High.
I got in as Alex Chilton was about to go on.
He was good, he played a few mellow covers.
Upper Crust was a trip.
They're a group of Upper East side frat types
with Louis the Sixth makeup,
(white face powder, fake moles, white wigs,
pantoloons, ruffled frilly shirts, white stockings
and black buckled platform shoes)
and they played theme-related songs.
They were pretty good.
I got myself nice souvenirs,
a set list with Lord Bendover's sig
and a personalized "Upper Crust" guitar puck.
Happy Music listening to all...
