You are so completely lucky... Reykjavik is a place I spent a week in last
month and I totally fell in love with it... amazing people, a beautiful
city, and there's actually tons to do... especially on the weekend.

It's not that hard to find things there as Reykjavik is a small city
(compared to US cities)... only 125,000 people there (and 250,000 in the
whole country of Iceland). The best club that I know if is called Kaffi
Thomsen. I played there and had a great time. The DJs from Gus Gus are
usually playing there on weekends (them being DJ Alfred More and Herb
Legowitz). Gus Gus also hosts a once a month Sunday thing there, hopefully
you'll be there when they host it.

There is another really nice coffeehouse that is co-owned by Damon from
Blur (he has a summer home in Iceland and is there now... he came to my
gig...) but I don't know the name of it... just ask for "a really cool
coffeehouse" and you should be quickly directed to it. Downtempo DJ stuff
happens there on weekends, too.

There are two really excellent record stores in Reykjavik, too, where you
can get the complete skinny... one is called Hljomalind which is located at
Laugarvegur 39, phone number 552-4717... they know what's up. The owner
knows me so tell him Q-Burns sent ya... the other record store is just down
the street and is called Druman, located at Laugavegur 69. I found a bunch
of out-of-print 12" vinyl goodies there. Phone number 551-7965.

Look for a free music newspaper called Undirtonar (I think) at the record
stores... though it is all in Icelandic, you can still get a feel for the
local music scene from this paper. I think the current issue has an
interview with me in it!

Clubbing in Reykjavik is an awesome experience... people there who are
reserved during the day really get down at night and drink quite a bit! At
3 AM the clubs all close, but drinking is allowed in the streets... so
Icelanders just buy a bunch of beer and take it to the street, packing them
and partying until 6 or 7 in the morning... and, as it's daylight this time
of year at night, the partying gets pretty wild.

Watch your expenses, though... Iceland is really expensive... a pint of
beer is ten bucks (due to a crazy beer tax). A meal is like 15 dollars.

Everyone speaks English in Iceland, too... so don't be totally intimidated
by their seemingly insane native language. Icelanders are very friendly and
don't mind speaking English.

So- have fun. Give us a report when you return... and be sure to check out
the amazing landscape and countryside. I envy you... Iceland is my favorite
foreign country, and I'm longing to go back soon!

PS- you can also e-mail my friend Snorri at ss@mmedia.is
He is involved with the 'scene' there and will know what's happening...
