I have no problem with gig announcements, my only rant is that there are
still a lot of morons, er,
un-enlightened listmembers who don't read the list FAQ (Erik doesn't just
post it frequently for nothing) and
POST THE LOCATION OF THE EVENT IN THE SUBJECT HEADER!
Event announcements are a necessary part of this list. To see a local band,
an established artist or popular DJ is an important part of this scene...It
shouldn't just be limited to listening to records.
Not everyone knows who's in our own particular neck of the woods - 80% of
the people who subscribe to this list just lurk, so don't always depend on
them to reply to someone asking, "Who lives in Montreal?" etc. Since they
lurk, they do what they do best, and that's read the messages. And those
messages should also include gig/event announcements.
