I just got in from a Siedah Garret performance at Luna Park in Los Angeles.
This was the first time I've seen her perform live. She did a 45 minute set
of new material -- completely amazing funky hard-edged rock. Apparently it
isn't bound for any solo album or anything like that, and from what I could
find out she is not signed for any record deal at the moment, although I was
told she's got a song writing contract with Java/Glenn Ballard. (And I guess
it's not big news that she is no longer with the Brand New Heavies.)

So, although the set she played tonight wasn't really acid-jazz related, I
just have to say that I absolutely loved the show. I don't even usually get
into rock at all, but I can't emphasize enough, how impressed I was. She was
strong, dynamic and totally energetic. I was blown away by her powerful
delivery, especially because it wasn't what I had expected at all. And not
only is she totally gorgeous and captivating, her depth of experience and
professionalism were amazing, and her connection with the audience was
intense.

I had always thought she was good at what she did, but I never thought she fit
with BNH (and I had to have been one of her harshest critics during that
time), but I hope this material ends up on an album sometime soon. I would
love to hear more from her.
