Hiya

day 2 of this festival was as much exiting as the first one. Black Star was
canceled but Rahzel made it up for them. He put down hell of a show on a
small stage, very low to the ground so he "could feel the audience" as he
phrased it.. I thought I heard him say he will release a solo album?? and a
new Roots album next year...
t-shirts were for sale with "Razehl, The Godfather of Noize" on it.

Later on I met Rahzel I got to shake hands with this friendly dude as I was
watching Patato Valdez & Hilton Ruiz (Afrojazzia) doig a relaxed set. there
were about 10 people watching these legends play. Rahzel said that Patato
was an old friend and that he really liked this blend of Latin and Jazz. at
that moment I was perplexed cause I suddenly saw that the saxplayer was a
dutch guy who I had been playing with one week ago. I definitely have ot ask
him how he ended up in Patato Valdez's band. Later on Rahzel was doing
freestyles in the hallway when the festival was nearly over. He was clearly
enjoying his time as he kept doing requests.

I saw a poet from Birmingham, a tall dread-locked guy with a jamaican
accent, Benjamin Zephaniah (it sounds familiar but from where?) very down to
earth poetry and people were really digging it.

Another highlight was Chezere, a soul/blues/funk singer. Look out for this
woman, she is wild! what a voice...she was doing a gig with only a
guitarplayer to accompany her. I read that she has done an album with Dj
Cam, the drummer of Jamiroquai and people of Galliano, sounds interesting.

and it didn't stop there. best set for the evening came from Notzake Shange
Ritual's & Lester Bowie (only Lester didn't show ). on the same stage as I
saw Don Byron yesterday. and I felt the same vibe here as well. it touched
my soul...the drummer played a talking drum on two songs which sounded
really nice with the rest of the instruments and the female poet was wicked.
Do these people have an album out? amazing...

Some stuff that I didn't like: Howie B and Mike Benson. They looked bored
out of there wits which was very much like their set.
Karl Hyde Tomato Project, too much blabla for me, talking loud and saying
absolutely nothing.

well tonight there will be a brazilian bossa/funk/jazz jamsession at Grote
Markt 17 in Schiedam for those of you in Holland. Come & Join, bring yer
instrument! Starting at 20.00

cheers,
Jeroen
