how could I forget these!
I found these in the A.P.C. clothing store, there is a whole series but
the two that I picked up are:
Boniche Dub: a laswell remix of Alger Boniche and orch. The music is
guitar driven in a middle eastern/european folk feel. Maybe morroccan,
this is got everything in the bag. The overall feel is similar to the
Panthalassa dub, but the source is livelier. This was also a score.
Havana Mood: 2Cd set. Here Laswell and Touitou went to havana and
recorded the Septeto Nacional at Egrem studios, cd 1 is the "straight"
master, it's similar musically to the Buena Vista Social Club, but rawer,
and less produced.
The second Cd is dubs of the straight tracks. Interesting in that you
don't hear this music remixed. And it is up to par with Laswells dub.
Good stuff to throw a twist in your afro-cuban set.
The store has a series of releases which I think are mainly Dub.
Stores in Paris, NYC, Tokyo. plus online at: www.apc.fr
whew, enough typing for one day.
