Okay this is sure to open a whole new kettle of fish...I don't think you can
find too many American artists on the level of the people I listed. What
American trip hop artist compares with Portishead and Massive Attack? I
can't think of any. DJ Shadow comes close maybe.
Okay now for big beat....Crystal Method? One hit band. And they are mostly
techno. Please do not mention DJ Icey. No comparison.
Okay now drum & bass....um... ahhh...well there's a... next genre.
Now if we want to pick German or European artists I can do a better job
coming up with comparable bands and artists (esp for trip hop), but the US.
No way. And I'm as patriotic as the next guy. Just remember when it comes to
rap we kick their ass!

Also, notice that all these artists are from the UK. Where's the US
representation in film soundtracks, commercials, charts, radio, etc?? I
think those of us in the States should make a little extra effort in seeking
out and patronizing american artists. If not for patriotism, at least for a
little variety.
no disrespect intended towards our British bretheren, just getting tired of
monopolies in music.
