Bombay the Hardway is a compilation out on Motel Records (the same
people who put out the Vampiros Lesbos soundtrack). It's a comp
of studio outtakes from the soundtracks of classic old-school
Hindi Action cinema movies from the 70s (India's equivalent of
the Blaxploitation genre). There's a mention of a DJ named Dan
the Automater, but the remixing on the comp is minimal, most of
the material were funky soundtracks from the basement tapes of
Kalyanji and Anandji (two brothers responsible for a tonne of
Hindi movie scores). I don't think DJ shadow has any affiliation
with this album. Some tripped out funky sounds on that comp. The
liner notes have pictures of some classic Hindi movie
scenes - read the liner notes and you'll releazie how f--ked up
the Bollywood scene was in the 70s (some of the most bad-ass movies
you'll ever see).
