What IS it?

Either house music has changed somewhat, or acid jazz has now latched on the
4-on-the-floor pattern. But I hear a "new" sound coming out lately. Examples:

* Roy Davis Jr.
* MAW's Remix of Gus Gus' "VIP" (I *love* this track)
* Anything by Basement Jaxx.

It's got a house (more like garage) beat, 4-on-the floor with the offbeat
hi-hats, but the bass drum isn't as emphasized as in "normal" house. The claps
are shorter and tighter, and there's an 808 snare drum "ghostnote" pattern...and
like speed garage, it's got a "swing" feel to the groove. But unlike speed
garage, it's not as junglistic or dissonant.

But the biggest thing is the jazzy chords; you can't miss them. They're either
played by the old standby - Fender Rhodes piano - or are samples of Rhodes
chords (m7, m9, etc)

Is there a name for this sound? I must say, I dig it.
