Miles Davis Gets Remixed By King Britt, DJ Cam & Others
, Jamie Myerson, King Britt
It's the new jazz: Columbia Jazz is set to release Panthalassa: The Remixes, a collection of Miles Davis remixes, on May 25. The remix album, which features the likes of DJ King Britt, DJ Cam, and Jamie Myerson, draws from Bill Laswell's 1998 album Panthalassa: The Music of Miles Davis 1969-1974.
In that original Panthalassa album, jazz fusion artist Laswell took session tapes from Miles Davis albums -- including In a Silent Way and Get Up With It -- and created (arguably) more fully realized, multi-track versions of Davis' songs by altering arrangements and using material that did not make it into the final edits of the original songs.
The vinyl release of the remix album features a bonus track, DJ Krush's remix of "Black Satin/On the Corner." Here are the remixes set for the CD version of the album: Doc Scott, "Rated X"; King Britt and Philip Charles, "Shhh (Sea4 Mils Remix)"; DJ Cam, "In a Silent Way"; Bill Laswell, "On the Corner (Subterranean Channel Mix)"; and Jamie Myerson, "Rated X."
