Some new Music I've been listening to:
UFO: the best of NOW and THEN (Brownswood/Mercury)
This import is incredible! on disc one there are remixes of 11 of
UFOs recordings, remixers include: King Britt, Fila Brazilia, A Forest
Mighty Black, The Ballisitc Brothers, Takemura, Ken Ishii, and several
other Japanese artists, I was really psyched to hear great variations of
already great music!
On the second disc is an introduction by Gilles Peterson, and then
a best of cd which is whatever but the remixes are great!
Ry Cooder: The End of Violence Soundtrack (Outpost)
as the cover says 14 years later and Wenders and Cooder team up
again, this time enlisting Howie B to mix it. This is really ambienty and
obviously cinematic good music to work or drive to.
Howie B: (don't remember the title..)(Palm Pictures)
His new release on Palm Pictures is quite good, with some tasty
grooves on it. I don't think that it has been released yet, but keep your
eyes out for it.
owL remixes Low : (Caroline)
never heard of the actual band but am a fan of neotropic,
tranqility bass, and vadim. another highly recommended purchase, actually
the neotropic, tranquility bass, and skaull valley dub are the best, and
definitly worth checking out.
Reich Remixed (Nonesuch)
original avant garde composer remixed by electronica djs: Coldcut,
HowieB Andera Parker, Tranquility Bass, Mantronik, Takamura, D*Note, DJ
Spooky, Ken Ishii, and then there is also a tenth remix with no credit!
some pretty abstract music, some excellent grooves, and a dubby remix by
Ishii.
Tom Ze: Fabrication Defect (Luaka Bop)
Funky Brazilian sounds with an interesting message about
consumerism and the third world. As with many other Brazilians there is
great use of non-traditional objects for percussion, also on a track
there is the strangest rubbery sound.
