DREEM TEEM NAMED NEW PRESENTERS AT BBC RADIO 1
'DREEM ADDITION MARKS RADICAL CHANGE TO DJ LINE-UP'
The pace of change at Radio 1 was stepped up a gear today when Controller
Andy Parfitt announced that he is to hand over the Sunday morning schedule
to UK garage DJs The Dreem Teem. The DJ production trio Dreem Teem who are
Mikee B, Timmi Magic and DJ Spoony will make a dramatic entry onto the
schedule from 23rd January 2000, playing R'n'B and Soul as well as the UK
garage for which they are best known, designed to fit the lifestyles of
Radio 1's increasingly young audience.
The Dreem Teem gained wider attention recently, working with Neneh Cherry,
revamping her 1992 classic 'Buddy X' which hit No.15 in the charts in
October '99. The Dreem Teem formed in 1997 signing to 4 Liberty Records,
where their debut single 'The Theme' reached No.34 in December '97.
UK garage has increasingly made its presence felt on Radio 1, with recent
tracks receiving support including Y Tribe 'Enough Is Enough', Artful Dodger
'Rewind', and Shanks & Bigfoot 'Sweet Like Chocolate' as well as the Dreem
Teem themselves.
"Radio 1 aims to bring the best new music to the widest possible young
audience and few things sum that up better than signing the Dreem Teem"
explains Managing Editor Ian Parkinson, outlining the radical change in
programming designed to better fit listeners' Sunday mornings.
"UK Garage is one of the most exciting new genres in British music for
years, and the Dreem Teem are the acknowledged leaders on the scene. Along
with their unmatched musical status, they're also very talented
broadcasters, with an accessible and humorous style that listeners will
love."
On their new arrival at Radio 1, Dreem Teem's Spoony stated;
"It's the dream of every radio DJ to broadcast nationally and national radio
doesn't get any bigger than Radio 1. It's the perfect platform for us to
bring our sound to the widest of possible audiences. Our first show for
Radio 1 will be on January 23rd 2000, and we are relishing the challenges
the new show is bound to bring.
It's a great validation for our music to be brought on board at Radio 1, the
station has an awesome heritage. We intend to carry on that legacy by
producing a show with the highest musical values."
