sorry just web surfing more that usual, I was checking the AMP playlist and
came across interviews with the Chems and Fatboy from their Red Rocks
gig--should have visited my cousin in July--and here is what Mr. Norman
Cook has to say about people coming to see him beacause of his music in
adverts:
In today's society, adverts are kind of like the wallpaper, so they're
kind of a necessary evil. If an advert can turn you on to something else or
can make you laugh, if it's a kind of nice piece of art,or if it's stupid,
or if it turns you on to a song, it's probably the best part of popular
culture to be in.
It's most democratic, because people can dig your music without actually
going out to buy it,because they get it for free on the telly every day.
I've never had a problem with adverts. It's only when it's advertising
something that I don't approve of [that I have a problem]. But otherwise,
it's probably the biggest way you can flatter me, to use my music in an
advert.
It only happened to me once in a lift, and there was this Pan pipe version
of "Tune In, Turn On, Cop Out" [by FS's acid jazz act Freakpower] and that
is it. You've arrived when something like that happens.
...interesting.
