Recently I saw John Medeski playing with Joey Baron and Marc Ribot,
two of my favorite "downtown jazz" players. Now THAT trio was truly
innovative! I think that MM&W are just locked into a "formula"
sound, that is obviously very successful but maybe not too challenging.
All three of them (MM&W) do a lot of session work with other folks
that allows them to stretch.
